Our commitment to a more sustainable future

The future of our planet depends on all of us and on the choices we make every day, because every action we take has an enormous impact on the environment that surrounds us. Capri Group has undertaken for some time now a path towards the implementation of the structure and production processes, in order to be and offer a product and a business model, always closer to the highest levels of sustainability.
From the use of recycled materials, through a more careful and sustainable design, up to the control of the production chain, with codes of conduct and objectives, the company is strongly committed to a path of optimization of the various sectors, in order to be increasingly sustainable and work in the most environmentally friendly way possible.

OUR COMMITMENT TOMORROW

objectives for 2024

  • RECYCLED WILL BE A MUST – we will use recycled polyester and synthetic fibres
  • OUR COTTON WILL BE EVEN BETTER – 100% of the cotton used will be sourced through BCI or from sustainable sources
  • LESS PLASTIC WILL MAKE US FANTASTIC! – reduce plastic packaging by 50% and use recycled plastics

FSC® and fashion: To ensure the sustainability of forest-based textile products

In recent years, the use in the fashion industry of fabrics composed of forest-sourced fibers such as rayon, viscose, modal or lyocell has increased. These fabrics can be more environmentally friendly than synthetic fibers or cotton: but only if the cellulose fibers from which they are made come from well-managed and sustainable forests.
FSC has consequently been involved to ensure traceability through the textile supply chain, an essential step in getting to label clothes made from cellulose fibers from FSC-certified forests.

BEAUTIFUL COTTON!

BCI (Better Cotton Initiative)

Gutteridge is a proud member of Better Cotton

The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is a global nonprofit organization and the largest cotton sustainability program in the world. BCI exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment in which it grows, and better for the future of the industry.

Using a holistic approach toward sustainable cotton farming, it covers the three main pillars of environmental, social, and economic sustainability through a farmer engagement and education program:

  • responsible use of water
  • respect for the territory, the land and its bio-diversity aimed at increasing soil fertility
  • limited and correct use of non-harmful pesticides and fertilizers
  • respect for people and their working conditions

Better Cotton is sourced via a chain of custody model called mass balance. This means that Better Cotton is not physically traceable to end products, however, Better Cotton Farmers benefit from the demand for Better Cotton in equivalent volumes to those we ‘source.’
Gutteridge is committed to sourcing 80% of our cotton as Better Cotton, recycled cotton, organic cotton, Fairtrade cotton.
